With origins in German physiotherapy, FLEXI-BAR is the most cost effective method for adding the benefits of vibration training to your workouts & injury rehabilitation. Swinging the FLEXI-BAR creates the vibrations that target the deep muscles of the body; the core muscles. Whenever the FLEXI-BAR is shaken, all of the deep muscles that attach to the spine react and begin to work. These deep muscles are generally known as involuntary muscles – they only begin to work in response to an outside force ( in this case the vibrations from FLEXI-BAR ). These deep, involuntary core muscles are our postural muscles and are responsible for holding our spine in it’s optimal position as you move through life. Many back problems, such as slipped disc, sciatica, lumbar pain, neck pain, rounded shoulders, & frozen shoulder, are the result of, or result in, weaknesses in the deep muscles of the back and abdominals. A weak core will also adversely affect coordination and balance, leading to a higher likelihood of fall injuries. With as little as 30-45 minutes FLEXI-BAR exercise per week, you can often expect immediate changes in core strength and rapid improvements in weak or injured muscles |

how does the Flexi-Bar® work?
FLEXI-BAR® works all of the muscles of the entire body. The action of shaking the FLEXI-BAR® causes a vibration to be passed through the body. This vibration pushes, or stretches the muscles out of their natural alignment. This misalignment sends an automatic message to the brain, via the nervous system, that the muscles have been stretched. The brain sends a message back to the stretched muscles to “contract” or shorten, in an effort to bring them back to their “centre”, or state of equilibrium.
This type of contraction is known as a “Stretch Reflex Contraction” and is a form of contraction that we physically cannot control or create. It is created by an outside force – such as using a
FLEXI-BAR®. These types of contractions use up to 100% of muscle fibre, compared to 40-60% recruitment of traditional training techniques.
Flexi-Bar® training recommendations
We reccommend training with the FLEXI-BAR for 10-15 mins, 2-3 times per week.
This is half the recommended workout time of most training techniques and is due to the massive increase in muscles fibres activated whilst swinging the FLEXI-BAR.

sports training with Flexi-Bar®
World class athletes use FLEXI-BAR as part of their sports specific training to increase proprioception, reaction times, core strength and balance. Athletes training with the FLEXI-BAR® develop an efficiency and stability that is impossible to replicate with traditional forms of training. This results in faster lap times, better technique, stronger muscles and less down time from injury.
Sports teams and organizations currently training with the FLEXI-BAR include:
- British Olympic Ski Team
- The British Ministry of Defence

XCO®-trainer
Dimensions Personal Health & Fitness utilizes XCO-trainers's for personal training, circuits and other sessions to improve your running ability and core strength. We are also an authorised reseller - visit our shop.
XCO-Trainer was developed by Dutch physiotherapist Jan Hermanns in the mid 1990’s. With over 35 years as a physiotherapist, Jan is the team physio for the Dutch baseball & hockey teams, and has been the physio for various judo competitors, with one achieving a Silver medal at the 2004 Olympics. In 2003 Jan approached FLEXI-BAR distributor, FLEXI-SPORTS Germany, to become the European distributor for the XCO range of products. Whether you’re looking to improve your running performance, walking distance or simply tone up, XCO is your number 1 choice. Use them at home to tone your upper body and strengthen your core. Take them on your next walk in the forest, or running on a treadmill. They are light, which means they can go anywhere with you. Whether it’s on holidays or on a weekend trip, XCO is your gym in a can! If you have a personal trainer, ask them to incorporate XCO’s into your training regime to achieve fast and superior results. The great versatility of the XCO-Trainer allows you to target different body parts, and body systems, to help you reach your goals quickly. |

toning exercises
The strong push/pull action of the XCO allows you to target both sides of your muscles effectively, helping to avoid muscular imbalances. The unique silicon granulate inside the tube reacts to the intensity at which you push and pull, i.e the harder you push, the harder your muscles work. |

walking

Walking with the XCO-Trainer has a dramatic effect on the heart rate and the general workload on the body. You can expect an increase of nearly 25 beats per minute in your heart rate, leading to greater calorie expenditure. Burning more calories whilst walking is very hard to achieve, simply because you can only walk so fast! Incorporating XCO into your daily walking regime could offer you the workout you’ve been seeking – a high-impact workout within a low-impact setting. You can also change your arm patterns whilst walking to effectively target specific muscles groups and achieve all round toning for the upper body. |
jogging/running
Whether you want to run for longer, run faster or simply burn more energy whilst running, with XCO you can do all 3! Running with XCO-Trainer is equivalent to adding 2km per hour to your running speed. Using the XCO whilst running helps to stabilize the hip musculature, improving its strength and stability. This can lead to improvements in your running style and ultimately the effectiveness of your run. You can expect an average increase in heart rate of more than 20 beats per minute over your normal running heart rate. Don’t forget, if your heart pumps faster, you need more energy and if you need more energy – you burn more calories. |

injury rehabilitation
The XCO-Trainer’s original purpose was to aid in shoulder rehabilitation. The soft impact created by the loose mass inside the XCO-Trainer helps to rebuild connective tissue while avoiding further injury.
